The backside of China Camp (BCC) is one of the best "legal" places to ride singletrack in Marin. I've been riding in Marin for 20+ years and didn't really discover China Camp until a few years ago. After riding the park side several times, I found that the back side of the mountain had the most challenging trails.

To get to the back side without having to ride up and over from the state park side, follow Locust Avenue (behind Dominican College) until it ends at a gate to Gold Hill Grade fire road. Ride up the fire road for about a mile, and you will cross several access points to a vast network of singletrack that rings the City of San Rafael Open Space and adjacent China Camp State Park on the other side of the hill.

A quick loop is to ride Gold Hill Grade Fire Road up to the Nike missile site, bomb Hitler, then traverse J. T. Howell back to the fire road, with a variety of optional singletrack offshoots along the way.
